Try doing balance exercises twice a week
The risk of falling increases as you get older.
This can be due to a combination of different causes, such as reduced vision or side effects of certain medications. But often the muscles work a little less well together, increasing the risk of falling.
Exercising balance keeps the muscles working well together and you are less likely to fall.
What are examples of balance exercises?
- Tai Chi
- Ball or racket sports
Many community centres or physiotherapy practices offer fall prevention training that often involves muscle and balance exercises, as well as practical advice to reduce the risk of falling.
