Objectives & work packages
The main objective of SO-NUTS is to prevent obesity, sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity by developing a digital personalized intervention that optimizes nutrition and physical activity behavior in retirement. In order to achieve this we have several sub objectives that are described in the table below and correspond to six work packages.
Work package 1
Main objective:
To create and validate a model of sarcopenic obesity phenotype in order to screen and predict individuals likely to become sarcopenic at the time of retirement.
Sub-objectives:
- Create a phenotype for sarcopenic obesity.
- Validation of the phenotype for sarcopenic obesity.
- Metabolic and functional signature of sarcopenic obesity.
Work package 2
Main objective:
To understand how body composition, dietary habits and physical activity change during the transition from work to retirement and how these changes relate to sociodemographic and health-related characteristics and negative health outcomes.
Sub-objectives:
- Understand how body composition, dietary habits and physical activity change during the transition from work to retirement.
- Understand how change in body composition, dietary habits and physical activity relate to morbidity and mortality.
- Identify factors that influence changes in body composition, dietary habits and physical activity during the transition from work to retirement.
Work package 3
Main objective:
To identify elements that have contributed to success or failure in existing lifestyle interventions in older adults.
Sub-objectives:
- Perform a systematic review and meta-analyses on intervention studies to identify successful elements in interventions to prevent/treat sarcopenic obesity.
- Combine data from available intervention studies.
- Score identified interventions.
- Review on-going and planned intervention studies.
Work package 4
Main objective:
To identify the drivers of habit changes when going through retirement and to learn how to best motivate individuals to adopt and sustain a healthy lifestyle in retirement.
Sub-objectives:
- Identify strategies and barriers to the adoption of a new lifestyle around the time of retirement in literature.
- Identify strategies and barriers to the adoption of a new lifestyle around the time of retirement in focus groups.
Work package 5
Main objective:
To develop and test the first feasibility of the SO-NUTS application.
Sub-objectives:
- Development and evaluation of a low-fidelity prototype (EU TRL2&3).
- Development and evaluation of the proof-of-concept prototype (EU TRL5).
- Development and evaluation of the prototype (EU TRL 6).
Work package 6
Main objective:
To test the feasibility and first effects of the SO-NUTS application and secure the potential of the SO-NUTS application.
Sub-objectives:
- Design and prepare the SO-NUTS pilot study.
- Successfully perform the pilot study.
- Provide feasibility and first effects of the SO-NUTS application.
- Secure the implementation and dissemination.
